I've pretty much anoedabnd idea notebooks on my own, and I'm glad to hear that it's not abnormal. There's the old image of the writer keeping his notebooks that I have to fight. I suppose it helps some writers, but not me. In fact, I find that notes weigh down the entire process too much even notes when I'm writing. I'd rather page through the manuscript to find a factoid than trying to make notes of things. What it all comes down to is how much am I willing to trust my creative voice. If I truly believe that's the place where stories come from (and I do), then it behooves me to do everything I can to keep my critical voice for weaseling his way into the process (such as having idea notebooks). But again, for some writers, idea notebooks are essential.Incidentally, one of the most famous writers who kept a notebook was W. Somerset Maugham, and if I remember correctly, he once confessed to having never looked in any of his notebooks for ideas or anything. It was a way to help etch an idea in his memory, that's all. When his creative voice needed something, it was there, in his mind, ready to be used as necessary.
